Meghalaya Election 2023: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Meghalaya president Ernest Mowry has lost the election. He had contested from West Shillong constituency. He got only 3771 (20.07 %) percent votes and stood third. Paul Lyngdoh of United Democratic Party (UDP) has won from this seat. Paul Lyngdoh got 7,917 (42.14%) votes here. Significantly, the Meghalaya BJP President had made a lot of headlines on the statement of eating beef. Actually, he had said that I myself consume beef. There is no ban on eating beef in Meghalaya. Along with this, Mowry had said that Meghalaya is a Christian majority state and if BJP comes to power, it will provide more security to Christians.
After this statement BJP President came in discussion
Ernest Mowry said that we are in Meghalaya, here everyone eats beef, and there is no restriction. Yes, I eat beef too. There is no restriction on this. This is the lifestyle of the people here and no one can stop it. There is no such rule in India also.
Before the counting of votes, Mawari said that his party will win 10-15 seats in this election in Meghalaya. Mowry told news agency ANI that after the polling we have discussed and we are confident that we will win minimum 10 seats and maximum 15 seats.
BJP got a crushing defeat
Let us tell that the BJP has faced a crushing defeat in the Meghalaya assembly elections. Here BJP got only three seats. Just before the election, the decision to break away from its old partner NPP and contest the election proved to be a flop. Before the assembly elections, BJP was hollering about forming government on its own in the state, but this bet did not work in Meghalaya.
