Studied till 10th, didn’t get job
Nek Ram was born in an ordinary family in Nanj village of Karsog in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. Now his age is 59 years. But from birth to 59 years of age, Paav has struggled a lot in life. Nekram Sharma, who was an average student in studies, passed the 10th standard. Looking at the family conditions, he decided to do the job. He wandered to many places for a job, but could not find a job anywhere. What to do in future? Thought about it.
Then thought, why not do natural farming
According to media reports, Padma Shri Nek Ram told that due to non-availability of job, there was a crisis of life. Later he chose his life in farming. People use pesticides in agriculture. He thought that the environment can be improved by natural farming. Playing with health can also be stopped. He reached Bangalore to get training in this regard. There he took information about the traditional farming of agriculture. There he learned about the nine grains system. After this he also learned the tricks of farming in Nauni and Palampur University. Around 1995 started doing natural farming in the same way.
Nek Ram chose this method of cropping
Farmer Nekram Sharma has been selected for his distinguished service in the agriculture sector. Nekram Sharma is reviving the traditional cropping system of nine grains. It is a natural intercropping method. In this, 9 food grains are grown on a piece of land without any chemical use. Nekram Sharma says that by doing this, the use of water would have been cut by 50 percent and the fertility of the land would have increased. Other farmers are also being advised to adopt this system. The production of indigenous seeds has started from the crop itself. About 10,000 farmers are also being given free seeds.
Seed bank made of 40 types of cereals
Nek Ram Sharma told that he has a seed bank of 40 types of grains. Many such seeds have been preserved in these. Whose names have not been heard by any person or have reached the verge of extinction due to ignorance. Now he is trying to revive these seeds. His wife, daughter-in-law and son also help in Nekram’s work.
