Peru Anti Govt Protest: Protests against the government have intensified in Peru. The conflict between the protesters and the security forces has taken a violent form. More than 50 protesters have been injured in anti-government protests in Peru. Many police officers were also injured during the violent protests. The injured have been admitted to hospital.
According to media reports, police officers and a large number of protesters were injured in anti-government demonstrations in the Ica department on Wednesday (January 25), south of the country’s capital Lima.
Violent protests intensify in Peru
Peru’s State News Agency said that at least 57 people were injured during the demonstration. Clashes escalated when police removed a blockade set up by protesters on the Panamericana Sur Highway. According to the Maria del Socorro hospital, 24 injured were admitted, including 14 police and ten protesters.
What is the demand of the protesters?
In view of the demonstration, a large number of military personnel have been deployed. The protesters are calling for the resignation of current President Boluaarte in order to replace the market-friendly constitution of Alberto Fujimori’s time in the 1990s. Along with this, they are demanding early elections in the country, dissolution of the Congress and making a market-friendly constitution.

Protests have intensified in Peru since President Pedro Castillo was ousted in December last year after attempting to dissolve the legislature to prevent an impeachment vote. Due to violent protests, more than 50 people have died so far. Some locals have pointed fingers at Boluarte. He was accused of not acting to suppress the protests, which began on 7 December in response to Castillo’s ouster and arrest.
