New Delhi: For the first time on the lines of LG VK Saxena’s zero tolerance against the drug menace, 25 properties used in drug trafficking have been sealed in Delhi. The authorities have considered demolishing the properties.
According to the LG office, the move is aimed at sending a strong message against drug trafficking in the city and deterring the drug mafia from indulging in such acts. The LG had on April 27 directed the concerned agencies to seal the properties/buildings being used for drug peddling. Also start the work of demolishing such properties.
How many properties have been identified?
After the action taken by the Delhi Police against the drug mafia in the city, 25 properties were identified across Delhi. These were used either through the owners of the property or through other occupants. After this, on the recommendation of the police, the MCD had sealed the properties.
Interestingly, out of the total properties sealed by MCD, 24 are residential properties and these were easily used by drug peddlers without any suspicion. Out of 25 properties, 7 properties have been sealed in Shahdara (North) zone and 04 properties in Central and Narela zones.
What instructions?
It is noteworthy that LG Saxena, while presiding over the 5th meeting of the State Level Committee of NCORD (National Narcotics Coordination), had directed the Delhi Police and other concerned agencies to ruthlessly curb the drug menace.
LG Saxena directed to seal and demolish the properties, besides asking the Transport Department and GNCTD to make necessary provisions for cancellation of permits of vehicles involved in drug trafficking.
What did VK Saxena say?
Delhi LG VK Saxena said that these steps are aimed at making Delhi drug-free with the active participation of all stakeholder agencies of the state and central government. He said drug trafficking is not only a petty criminal act but an international design to weaken the country.
Saxena called upon the law enforcement agencies to work in mission mode to fight this menace.
