PM Kisan: For the last several years, the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana is providing economic empowerment to the small farmers of the country. Under this scheme, an incentive amount of Rs 2.25 lakh crore has been sent directly to the bank account of the beneficiary farmers, which has helped the farmers in settling minor expenses related to agriculture. Under the PM Kisan Yojana, 12 installments of Rs 2,000 each have been transferred to the beneficiary farmers so far. This scheme is about to complete 50 months now. This is the reason that in the new budget to be presented on February 1, 2023, the expectations of any big announcement related to PM Kisan Yojana have increased.
On the other hand, Farmers Producer Organization and experts are also demanding to increase the annual assistance amount of Rs.6,000 to Rs.8,000 under Samman Nidhi. Many people are also looking at it by linking it with politics and elections, although the big personalities who have been in the administration have also presented many suggestions to the central government to increase the money of the PM farmer.
Will the amount of Samman Nidhi really increase?
Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, an incentive amount of Rs 6,000 is given annually to the beneficiary farmers. This amount is transferred through DBT to the bank account of the farmers in three installments of two thousand rupees each. There is no role of middlemen in this.
The process of verification is going on in PM Kisan Yojana, under which ineligible farmers are being removed from the scheme. So far 1.86 crore ineligible farmers have been removed from the scheme, leaving only 8.5 crore beneficiary farmers. Lakhs of farmers have been found ineligible from many states, the beneficiary list is being updated by removing them.
Experts believe that when the number of 11 crore farmers has reduced to 8.5 crore only, then only Rs 54,000 crore will be spent on PM Kisan Yojana and the budget will be saved. In such a situation, if the government wants, it can give Rs 2,000 more to the beneficiary farmers by using Rs 75,000 crore from the old budget allocated for the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.
No official statement has been issued in this matter yet, but the expectations of farmers and experts related to the agriculture sector are related to the general budget to be presented on January 1.
The people of the administration also gave suggestions
This period of inflation is full of more difficulties for the farmers, because it is the farmer who produces food. From preparation of the field to fertilizers, seeds, fertilizers, pesticides to irrigation, harvesting, sale or storage of the produce, a lot of money is spent by the farmers.

- Soumya Kanti Ghosh, Chief Economic Advisor, State Bank of India, in her research paper has focused on the need to increase PM Kisan’s money from Rs 6,000 to Rs 8,000 in the next 5 years.
- The Swaminathan Foundation, headed by M. Swaminathan, has also demanded an increase in the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana from Rs 6,000 to Rs 15,000 per year.
- Vinod Anand, President of the National Farmers Progressive Association and a member of the Central Government’s MSP Committee, has also presented a suggestion to increase the amount of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi to Rs 24,000.
- Former Finance Minister of the country P Chidambaram has also suggested to increase the incentive amount of PM Kisan Yojana from Rs 6,000 to Rs 12,000.
- Former Agriculture Minister Sompal Shastri has advised to make lump sum payment of PM Kisan Yojana instead of spending it in subsidy scheme.
How PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana started
For information, let us tell you that the government had announced to spend Rs 75,000 for the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. The government had full hope that about 12.5 crore farmers would be benefited from this scheme, but till now the number of beneficiary farmers could not exceed 11 crore, that is why the government reduced the budget of PM Kisan Yojana by Rs 10,000 crore to Rs 65,000 crore. Fixed, because according to the conditions and rules of this scheme, only small farmers with 2 hectares or less land are eligible. At the same time, most of the farmers of the country are landless and have large land. According to the figures, under the PM Kisan Yojana, the maximum incentive amount of Rs 61,091 crore was spent in the farmers’ account in 2020-21.
