Darshana Patel, who is preparing to run for office as a Democrat, said, “As the daughter of immigrants who struggled to make the American Dream a reality, I know the challenges their families face during difficult times.” According to the Times of San Diego report, Darshana Patel had moved to California when she was a teenager.
Regarding her candidacy, she said, “I’m running for state assembly because I want to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to succeed and grow. Because I’ve been a scientist, an elected school board member, And I can use my experience as a leader to make a difference in people’s lives.”

Darshana Patel was re-elected to the Poway Unified Board in 2020 after helping restore fiscal responsibility when the district was grappling with financial mismanagement and criminal activity. In addition to her work on the school board, Darshan Patel serves on the California Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander American Affairs and as president of the San Diego County School Boards Association. She has previously held executive positions on the Rancho Penasques Planning Board, Rancho Penasquitos Town Council, Park Village Elementary School PTA and Education Foundation Board.
