Japan: Japan has found 7,000 new unknown islands in the sea falling in its territory. Earlier in 1987, according to the Japanese government survey, there were a total of 6,852 islands. But now with the addition of 7,000 new islands, some numbers have more than doubled. Now the total number of islands in Japan will increase to 14,125. According to media reports, Japanese scientists are working on new islands.
After getting the new islands, the administration says that the new data reflects Japan’s advanced technology and ability to see detailed maps. The surveying agency reported that it used the same size criteria as a previous survey 35 years ago, which included counting all naturally occurring land areas with a perimeter of at least 100 meters (330 ft).
Dispute over many islands already going on
The agency said the new figures do not include any artificially reclaimed land. Let us tell that the islands around Japan have been at the center of many territorial disputes. For example, there is a dispute between Japan and Russia regarding the Kuril Islands. Japan claims the southern Kuril Islands occupied by Russia. Along with this, accuses Russia of illegal occupation.
There is also a dispute between Japan and South Korea regarding the island.
Japan also says that it has a claim on the uninhabited Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea, but China has repeatedly challenged that claim. Similarly, there is a dispute between Japan and South Korea regarding an island. Japan calls this island Takeshima and South Korea Dokdo. At present, this island is controlled by South Korea. This island is also known as Liancourt Rocks. The dispute between Korea and Japan has been going on for more than 300 years regarding this island.
Significantly, Japan has used digital mapping technology to re-count its islands after 35 years. After the new islands found with the help of this advanced technology, the number of islands of Japan will increase. However, the Japanese government has not yet made public the total number of islands including the new islands.
