Pollution Hits Alarming Levels In Mumbai: Mumbai city, the financial capital of the country, is getting polluted day by day. Here the pollution level of Govandi area has reached 336, which means it is in very poor category. People suffering from TB and asthma and lung cancer are facing a lot of trouble due to this.
‘Mask necessary to avoid pollution’
Ansari Sagir, founder of Sewa NGO, which helps citizens in health services, told ABP News that most of the children and elders in this area are suffering from continuous cough. Due to pollution, after some time it is known that TB and asthma are in his body. Sagir says that for this reason he and his entire group walk wearing masks even after Corona so that the message goes to the people that how important masks are to avoid pollution.
Family Physician Dr. Rajesh Rajesh Prajapati in Govandi area told ABP News that there is more filth in this area as well as the dumping ground where the garbage of the entire Mumbai city is collected. There is also a plant for bio medical waste. Where the waste from the hospitals is burnt. Due to which the level of pollution in the area keeps increasing all the time.
When a gust of wind comes, that wind passes through the slum. Most of the people are not able to take clean climate. Because of which the disease here is increasing day by day. The state government and the Mumbai Municipal Corporation have provided hospital facilities here and people are also informed about this very well. Negligence of the people that they do not take medicines and do not maintain cleanliness. Due to lack of cleanliness, the pollution in the area increases further.
The people of Govandi are upset
Neelam Sharma, 30, of Govandi area, has two children. Neelam came to know 15 days back that she is suffering from TB. Neelam is very upset due to this. Neelam told ABP News that she has been living in this area with her family for the last 11 years. Recently he has got TB disease. When he showed it to the doctor, it came to know that he is malnourished, while this condition has also happened due to pollution. At present, his medicine is going on.
Neelam appealed to the government that it is necessary to clean this area and bring pollution under control. He says that it is the duty of the state government to provide facilities to the poor people. Shaikh Kamaluddin, suffering from asthma, said that he had asthma a few months ago, he believes that his health has worsened due to bad air. For this reason, he does not come out of the house.
Social worker Rasiya Shaikh told ABP News that she and her group help those in this area whose health deteriorates and their financial condition deteriorates. When asked about getting any facilities from the BMC and the state government, Rasia said that most of the services are provided by the NGOs living in these areas. BMC officials go door-to-door only to test children.
ABP News contacted the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board about this, but they refused to talk on camera. Meanwhile, he told that to bring pollution under control, directions have been given to BMC, who are going to install air purifiers in many areas of Mumbai.
