Russia Ukraine War Anniversary: The war that broke out between Russia and Ukraine completed one year on 24 February. The war has now entered the second year and so far no agreement has been reached between the two countries on any issue. Over the past year, the war has claimed thousands of lives, completely destroyed cities and towns, and Putin’s “military campaign” has forced millions to flee Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a military invasion of Ukraine on February 24 last year, allegedly with the hope of liberating the country (Ukraine). However, Putin has not yet got complete success in this. Compared to Ukraine, the straw-like country bravely faced the Russian troops and somehow maintained control over its country.

Is this war against western countries?
Russia is still angry with the western countries supporting Ukraine and Putin is seen warning these countries every day. Ukraine’s Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu says that this fight is a fight for the existence of Western countries. Sergei Shoigu said, “Russia’s plan is to use Ukraine to take control of the entire West. However, this attempt of Russia will prove to be unsuccessful.”
Resolution passed in UNGA against Russia
A resolution was also passed in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to mark the first anniversary of the war. The resolution calls on Russia to end the war in Ukraine and withdraw its forces. 141 votes were cast in support of this proposal, while 32 countries abstained from voting. These countries also include Belarus, North Korea, Eritrea, Mali, Nicaragua, Syria and India.
Biden will meet Zelensky
On the other hand, Russia rejected the UN proposal as ‘useless’. Volodymyr Zelensky said the UNGA resolution was “a powerful signal of global support for Ukraine”. America also reacted to this. The White House said that US President Joe Biden would meet G7 leaders and Zelensky on the anniversary to show his support for Ukraine. Biden may also announce new sanctions against Russia after this meeting.
What is Vladimir Putin’s plan now?
Amidst all this, one important thing is that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to take the war further. Putin’s plan is to intensify the war. An example of this is the announcement of the deployment of new multi-warhead intercontinental ballistic missiles. Along with this, Putin has also suspended the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty with the US on the control of Nuclear Weapons.
