WPL Players’ Auction: The players’ auction for the opening season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) could be held in the second week of February. According to media reports, it is almost decided to hold this auction (WPL Auction) in a hotel in New Delhi on 10 and 11 February. In this auction, 5 franchises will choose their respective squads.
Recently the teams for WPL were auctioned. 5 teams will play in the first season. In such a situation, there was competition among 17 companies to buy these 5 franchises. Here IPL’s Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals got one team each. The other two teams were bought by Adani Sportsline Pvt Ltd and Capri Global Holding Pvt Ltd. These 5 teams were sold for a total of Rs 4670 crore.
Each team will get 12 crores in the auction purse.
After the auction of the teams, now the preparation for the auction of the players has started. According to the information revealed so far, each franchise will have 12-12 crores to buy players. 15 to 18 players can be bought in each team. Of these, 7 players can be abroad. 5 foreign players will be able to play in the playing-11, in which one must be from an associate country. There is a category with 10 and 20 lakh base price for uncapped players and there is information about making a category with base price of 30, 40 and 50 lakh rupees for capped players.
The first season of the Women’s IPL is expected to be played from March 5 to 23. There is a possibility of conducting the WPL final just before the start of IPL. In such a situation, from the registration for the players’ auction to the names of the teams, jerseys and many other things are yet to come to the fore. Given the paucity of time, the month of February is going to be very busy for the WPL franchises and the BCCI.
