Allahabad High Court On Freedom Of Expression: The Allahabad High Court made an important comment on Saturday (January 28) regarding freedom of expression in the context of social media. The High Court said in a strict tone that freedom of expression on social media does not allow citizens to make irresponsible statements nor does it give license to use objectionable language.
The Allahabad High Court observed, “Nowadays social media has become a global platform for exchange of ideas…Today, internet and social media have become important tools of life, through which people personalize their feelings, Through which people can exercise their right to freedom, but it is a right with special responsibility.”
There is a case of spreading obscene content
Please inform that Justice Shekhar Suman Yadav has made this comment in the Allahabad High Court. He rejected the petition of Jhansi resident Nandini Sachan. Nandini is accused of spreading obscene content on social media. In connection with the matter, an FIR has also been registered against Nandini at Nawada police station under Section 67 of the Information Technology (IT) Act.
The accused said – I am being framed
However, the accused says that he has been falsely implicated. Nandini alleged that the FIR has been registered as a counter-argument. Nandini said that she had rejected the marriage proposal of a person and that is why she is being unnecessarily accused.
Dismissing Nandini’s petition, the court said that although social media has increased the scope of freedom of expression, it does not give the right to exercise freedom of speech without responsibility. The court said that looking at the FIR, it seems that the crime is serious.
