Till January 27, the area under wheat sowing has crossed 700 lakh hectares. Now it is expected to increase even more. At the same time, there is a need to worry about the purchase of rice. The central government has assured that there will be no shortage of rice in the country at the level of domestic consumption under any circumstances.
Rice will be procured up to 592 lakh tonnes
According to media reports, there is a decline in Kharif rice production. Despite this, the government’s rice procurement can reach last year’s level of 592 lakh tonnes in the marketing year ending in September 2022-23. That is, it is clear that the rice in the country will hardly be less than last year.
The target of procurement was kept at 600 lakh tonnes
Food Corporation of India (FCI) Chairman and Managing Director Ashok K. Meena said that the target of paddy procurement has been set at 600 lakhs. Till January 26, 426 lakh tonnes of rice has been procured in the country. This purchase was 410 lakh tonnes till the same period last year. This time paddy procurement will reach last year’s level of 592 lakh tonnes. The central government is keeping an eye on paddy procurement. According to preliminary estimates, the country’s rice production is estimated to be 104.99 million tonnes in the crop year 2022-23 (July-June). It was 11 crore 17.6 lakh tonnes last year.
Can buy rice for Rs 34 per kg
At the same time, the central government has also started preparations to reduce the price of rice in the open market. The central government has issued a new guideline regarding the purchase of rice. Guidelines have been issued for all the states that state governments can buy rice from Food Corporation of India (FCI) at Rs.3400 per quintal. States will get rice at Rs 34 per kg. The Central Government has said that many schemes are being run for the development of the poor in the state.
Rice can be purchased from FCI at the same rate for the operation of these schemes. No tender or e-auction has been made necessary for this paddy purchase. Fortified rice will also be present in the rice given to the states from FCI. With the consumption of this rice, government schemes can be implemented in the states.
