Story of Danveer Raja Harishchandra
It is said about King Harishchandra that, once in his dream he saw Maharishi Vishwamitra giving away his whole kingdom in charity. But the next day when he woke up in the morning, he had forgotten the dream. Maharishi Vishwamitra came to the palace and King Harishchandra reminded him of his dream. After this, the king happily donated his kingdom to him. But after donation, when it was the turn of Dakshina, he said, I have already donated everything, now from where can I get money for Dakshina.
After a lot of thought, King Harishchandra decided to sell himself and headed towards Kashi. Here a person bought Rani Taramati and son Rohitashv. On the other side, King Harishchandra was bought by a lord of the crematorium.
Harishchandra’s wife started washing utensils and doing the work of stove-stove at that person’s house. And the king Harishchandra, who once sat on the throne, started doing the work of the crematorium.
One day the king’s son Rohitashva was bitten by a snake, due to which he died. But Taramati did not have money even for the shroud. Somehow Taramati reached the crematorium carrying the son’s dead body in her lap with a sad heart. But as soon as he reached the cremation ground, Harishchandra started demanding the cremation tax from Taramati.
Because it was a rule to collect crematorium tax and he was following the orders of his master. King Harishchandra said to his wife that the cremation tax will have to be paid. Then Harishchandra told his wife that if you do not have the money to pay tax, then tear some part of your saree and give it. I will keep it as tax.
Being helpless, as soon as Taramati started tearing her sari, at the same time there was a loud thunder and Vishwamitra appeared. Vishwamitra said – O king! You are blessed. All this was your test, in which you proved that you are the best, charitable, truthful and religious.
After this, the son Rohitashva also became alive and the king was returned to his kingdom of worship. Not only this, Maharishi Vishwamitra said that, whenever religion, charity and truth will be talked about in the world, the name of King Harishchandra will be taken first with respect.
